Emery was hanging out with Mosby the cat on the stairs.  Well, not so much hanging out as trying to steal his toy :D

HAPPY BIRTHDAY EMERY!!!!
I can’t believe you are 3 already!  Seems like just yesterday you came into my life, a little fuzzball with a snarly face and attitude to spare!
Love you!

clumsy, clumsy

Before I got Emery, I thought all dogs liked car rides.  I was wrong.

Emery seems to have balance issues in cars.  She also likes to wander back and forth in the back seat at first, trying to find that “perfect spot”.  She was doing this last weekend in my brother’s car, which is a standard.  Throw in a corner, and you get clumsy Emery.  She slipped off the seat and hurt her leg.  She seemed fine when I dropped her off at my parents house.  I didn’t know she was hurt until that evening.  She wouldn’t put any weight on her back right leg.  Aside from that, it wasn’t bugging her.  I could touch her from hip to foot, squeezing gently.  Nothing.  No yelps, or whines.  She just sat there.  So I decided to wait and see if she improved.

She has, and is just about back to normal.  She just looks a little stiff after laying down for a while.  No daycare for her tomorrow.  I don’t want to risk her hurting herself more.

Off to the dog park!

We’re having gorgeous weather this weekend, I’ve been in shorts the last 2 days.  Amazing for October!

Emery and I are going to be heading out to a dog park in a bit.  Haven’t been to this one before, but it’s supposed to be entirely fenced in (a must for Emery).  I’m looking forward to it too.  I think Emery is too… lol.  She’s just looking totally bored right now, and being lazy on the couch.  Definitely need to get her out!

I love this picture.  This was taken when she was about 2 months old.  She was so small, she couldn’t reach all the way into her bowl, and her tail didn’t even curl all the way yet!

Emery LOVES gopher holes.  She insists on sticking her face (and sometimes half her body) into every one she sees.  This also works with snow.

Strange strange dog

Emery notices the strangest things.  Things I don’t think dogs should notice.  She’ll bark at a box if it wasn’t there before.  She barked at sunglasses on my head.  She barked at a Buddha statue in my living room - it’s been there for a year and a half, but apparently she just saw it yesterday.  She’ll bark at people on TV, I thought they weren’t supposed to be able to see images on the TV.  She doesn’t bark at sounds, she’ll actually bark at the people.  She’ll bark at dishes stacked in the sink.

She is also spoiled and has her own sand box.  My parents had horseshoe pits in their backyard.  They removed one to put in a shed, and just took the post out of the other.  Specifically so Emery could have a sandbox.  She fricken loves the thing!  As soon as anyone joins her outside, she’ll beeline for it.  And why?  Because she wants you to throw/kick sand for her to chase.  Any “flying stuff” she loves.  Throw some grass/sand/snow for her, and she will chase it for hours.

Those are a couple strange things about her… I wonder if all Shibas are that bizarre.  Wait, forget I asked that.  I’m sure they are! :)
